Welcome to my Blog all about Petunia

Petunia is my 1962 Vintage Kencraft travel trailer, I bought about 1 year ago. I am absolutely head over heals in love with this little gem and I have become obsessed with all things "Vintage". When I bought her, I had no idea that vintage trailers were all the rage at the moment and neither did the people I bought her from. I felt like I had won the lottery. I immediately embarked on a journey to find out any and all information about restoring them and now find myself in the exclusive club that is Vintage trailer owners. I can't wait to share with you my adventures in her and all the treasures I have found to decorate and bling her out and fix her up. I know she needs a paint job desperately (not to mention a few additional things) and I am working out exterior paint design and colors. The tan stripe is not original. I've scrapped some of the paint off and it appears that the original might have been yellow. Not sure if I will go back to that, or paint it pink.. I promised my husband that I wouldn't make her too "girly" but sadly..it's happening. I just can't help myself. So welcome to my blog. I am new to this whole blogging world, so please bear with me. I'm learning as I go. I welcome feedback and input for sure. I look forward to meeting you and making many new blogging, vintage trailer, friends. - Happy Glamping!

So Mr. B and I made the trek up to Big Sur for little “Glamping” with Petunia. I tell you…Hwy 1 is a killer. We’ve done it before with a smaller car, but with a large Suburban and trailer in tow, it’s a little scary, to say the least. There is a lot of construction on the road heading North just above Ragged Point, so if you are going that way…be careful.

We found a darling little campground, right along the Big Sur River, smack in the middle of the Redwood trees. Our campsite was supplied with a fire pit (and grill for cooking) picnic table, power and water. The potties (flushing and extremely clean) were only bout 50 yards way. Since Petunia’s potty situation hasn’t been rectified yet, having bathrooms close by is a very good thing. Another really great feature about this campground, is that it is not too big and there are also “tent cabins” available for those without trailers. I could totally see this place taken over by vintage trailers for a weekend “Rally“. ..now THAT would be fun.

Here are a few photos I managed to take of our little get-a-way.

  1. The perfect spot! wish we could head up that way....
Don't know if you saw my response, we went to Ventura and stayed in an RV park (I would NOT recommend) because there wasn't a spot to be had at Rincon (no hook-ups) or Faria Beach (full hook-ups).

  2. You probably stayed at the same RV "Park from Hell" that we "camped" (if you can call it that) at a couple of years ago. We lasted one night before I made my husband find us a Hotel room. It was labor day weekend..and simply awful. That place probably has so many people that leave they actually post that they don't offer refunds. Ewww. Sorry for your experience. We took Hwy 1 up on our way there..but next time will go 101 to 68 over to Carmel. Much faster.

  3. I think this is why we go to Bodega every chance we can getaway because the road trip is easy and not too far away! We are going to Doran beach this weekend, just Mike and I, bringing a new Coleman tent and cot sleeping because our 'Pearl' is in need of renovation. :( I will miss her, but I plan on fluffing our tent with pretty Rachel Ashwell bedding. :)

  4. Kerrie, I can imagine just how lovely your little "Tent" will be with cozy Rachel Ashwell bedding. I love her stuff. I considered chucking all my "groovy" interior decor and starting over with the shabby Chic line from her collection (oh how I love the pink collection from Target) However, right now it's not in budget. Who is doing the renovation on Pearl? Any idea how long will it take? I know that a total renovation is going to need to take place on Petunia as well, but not until next year. We just want to enjoy her for now. Blessings!

  7. Nice image. Nothing quite beats relaxing in a trailer or rv. Sounds like the trip may have been a little hectic with the suburban. I can only imaging the view behind you in there.
